Training
DEE has developed a network of over 160 disabled trainers in the UK who can provide training on inclusion and disability equality, tailored to the needs of your organisation. We provided training to over 90,000 people over the last 5 years, over 90% of whom rated the training as good or excellent. Click to view DEE's clients. We also work internationally: recent work has included training in South Africa to representatives from 8 Southern African countries & in 5 Russian cities on an EU funded project to introduce inclusive education. The Social Model Our training is based on the thinking of the disabled people's movement, in particular the social model of disability and the principles of inclusive education, developed in North America. The social model views the discrimination and predjuice experienced by people who have a physical, mental, sensory or hidden impairment as rooted in the barriers of attitude, environment and organisation of society. Inclusion is a process of whole school and college change, where barriers are systematically reduced. An ethos is developed where all pupils and students are welcomed, supported and valued, and relationships are intentionally built.
