Who are we?

Disability Equality in Education (DEE) is a small non-governmental organisation that provides training, consultancy and resources to improve the position of disabled people in the education system and all public services.

DEE provides training for Disability Equality and Inclusion delivered by experienced disabled trainers. Our work is based on the Social Model of Disability and the empowerment of disabled children, young people and adults. DEE views the development of inclusive education as a human right. DEE is a disabled-led, not-for-profit company and charity.

DEE provides resources to raise disability and inclusion at all levels of the education system.

DEE collaborates with many organisations to achieve its goals in the UK and around the world.

We undertake this work by:

  • Delivery of Training
  • Research
  • Consultation
  • Developing Resources
  • Advocacy for Inclusion

DEE believes: "This is a human rights issue about equality in the classroom - not just an issue of special needs."

DEE has played a major role in defending inclusion education see the sponsored advert & signatories in the national press organised in 2005

Supporting  Schools in Building Schools for the Future –Disability Access Consultation Available

Richard Rieser has provided advice to the Architects and Governors of a number of schools on the Disability Access requirements and design of their new and refurbished school buildings under the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) scheme.  There is a world of difference between compliance with Section M of Building Regulations and taking this opportunity to get a fully accessible school. Remember the Governors are now under a Duty to Promote Disability Equality Disability Amendment Act 2005) and this includes all types of procurement under the Act. This is all about anticipating future uses of the school.

If you would like advice on your school’s access issues, please contact us on 0207 359 2855 or info@diseed.org.uk
